Anon 2, now that I think about it all 3 girls before Iris got their bikes destroyed by Ash and Pikachu, so it might be possible that Ash destroys another bike and these 2 gets to be closer to each other, even closer than how Serena is close to Ash.

Or maybe he does something bigger and better! He accidentally burned down her hut, and now she is forced to follow him until she can find somewhere to live. Then, he recruits some other girls to go to this crazy school for apparently, the game's version of Hawaii.
