Makes sense. After all the mess he's gone through in XY, he instinctively jumps from the nearest "cliff" whenever someone calls for help.

I like to believe Ash and Pikachu are intending to wall-slide down the aquarium glass ala Megaman X, but face-crash into it for the comedy. If you look carefully at their face, they didn't seems surprised at all they hit the glass.
