If you mean better than ever based on market reports I would definitely question you on that.
But yes hentai is a whole different thing, licensing hentai is extremely hard and risky for companies over here due to some specific laws and overall market absorption. So indeed internet is your friend for many of these.

It's not that there isn't a market, it's that the Japanese parent companies simply won't license it. During the hentai boom of the early 2000s what they discovered was that Japanese consumers, rather than buy the overpriced and censored DVDs, were turning around and importing the cheaper, uncensored American releases after they were licensed.
They were losing a lot of profits on this, so rather than petition the government to eliminate the censor laws (which would have easily fixed the problem) they tried to stop it by only authorizing US licensing with English dubbed audio to prevent Japanese from watching it, and when that didn't work they simply stopped allowing US companies to license it. Rather than adapt to the rules of the international game they simply closed themselves off from the market. That's called isolationism, and we're about to see a lot more of it.

^ unfortunately for us, this is 100% true. It's an amazingly petty reason for no one to be able to enjoy uncensored hentai. I'm still waiting for Space Pirate Sara's glorious box to be revealed. MangaGamer licensed the VN, but not the fucking show...
