Anon2 is right, this is not a new concept, we had this in Fates.

If a Character gets badly hurt, they have visible battle damage.

IE: torn clothes, armor being torn off, visible wounds and blood stains on clothes.

Since this is a 2d chibi sprite game, the only other way to show units being wounded is artwork of the poor bloke being beat up, just look at the new Mains for example.

Each playable character has 3 pieces of artwork:

-Normal pose
-Combat pose
-Battle damage pose (contains a bit of clothing damage)
