Anon2 is right, this is not a new concept, we had this in Fates.
If a Character gets badly hurt, they have visible battle damage.
IE: torn clothes, armor being torn off, visible wounds and blood stains on clothes.
Since this is a 2d chibi sprite game, the only other way to show units being wounded is artwork of the poor bloke being beat up, just look at the new Mains for example.
