As far as their personalities go, Tanya doesn't like war. She actually wants nothing more than to laze about drinking coffee. She's more like a character from a moe slice of life than the Major.

Oh no, she most definitely loves war in the later parts of the series. While she doesn't admit it, she goes absolutely ham for it in combat. Though I think it's mentioned that that's partly due to combat drugs they have her/her battalion take as elite units.
