I like prince sidon just as much as the next guy, and people drawing link gay and/or a trap is normal. But I don't understand why this caught on like wild fire.

Think about it, Urbosa teased Link and was much more worried about Zelda, Revali down right despised him, Daruk was just kinda around and those were supposed to be his friends
Sidon barely knows Link and, as soon as he meets him he's jumping in happiness because he can help his people and he's even more enthusiastic about him after he's told who he is, even when everyone else resents the fact that Link is alive and Mipha is not... He even defends Link agaisnt the attacks of the elders because of Mipha's death
When he's fighting Ruta, he encourages him every step of the way, even when he fails and, when he comes back, he's the happiest of everyone in any place Link visits, even going so far as to call him his "most treasured friend" when he's known him a few "days" at most... Not even Mipha was this, um, happy to just have Link there
It doesn't help that he's a qt and that they ARE cute together
tl;dr Sidon is a supportive, nice, positive and hot character and the biggest, not too creepy Link fanboy in the series and that might be a good reason for Sidlink to be so popular

Hmm. I had a feeling that was the case. But Sidon being supportive isn’t anything all that new. Ruji, Paya, Impa, Kass, Mipha, Durak, Urbosa, the great fairies, Temla, Ashei, Saria, and a heck of a lot more respect Link and are supportive of him in his journey; even discount Falco eventual warms up to Link in the end. So, Sidon being all happy and cheerful isn’t all that different. Heck, I found it kind of cheesy at how cheerful he was and thought I was going to hate the ten-foot-tall walking sushi bar. But he grew on me after the whole ordeal.
And him being hot I can’t say. It’s less to do with the fact that I am not gay; I have a secret fantasy of a threesome with Dante form devil may cry and Link. It’s just I don’t see him as hot.
Also, Sidon being nice is like the same argument that people make when the talk about the bad points of harem anime/manga protagonists; His just nice. And just being nice and cute doesn’t really scream a good story being told. And what’s worse is Link’s relationship with Mipha. Like I said, it’s very jacked up how someone, after finding out their dead sibling was in love with them would just jump on their younger sibling’s bones. It’s sounds like the plot to a shitty twilight fanfic. If it wasn’t for Sidon being Mipha’s dead sister, I maybe a little less weirded out by this. I was hoping it was more than that, but I shouldn’t be too surprised.
Me and a good chunk of people just don’t take this seriously. Compared to the woman who loved him as his childhood friend, Zelda who grew to love, Paya’s shy love for him, Midna’s dislike turned to friendship and/or love, and many others, being the ‘nice supportive guy’ doesn’t really stack up.
I think it’s mostly because I am not that flexible when it comes to pairings. I can’t just be like ‘Oh their cute, let’s have them screw!’ Even though Link doesn’t have much in a cannon personality, I still put a lot of thought before I have the mute hero go on a date with anyone. What’s their history like? Will their personalities work? How’s their social standing? Can they have kids? What’s their sexuality? It took me YEARS, to even think that Link and Samus and Link and Midna could be a couple. Now those two are one of my favorites.
Oh Well. Not much can really do about it. Just don’t become like those ZeldaXLink purest. And I don’t mean the guys who like that coupling but are cool with everyone else; I like them. I can take them out to a dinner and a move and love them tenderly. I am talking about the jerk offs that go all kratos on you if you even mention Link liking anyone else; I’d rather power bomb them into an active volcano with a nuke strapped to my cock then listen to them.
Just because someone has a different opinion then you don’t mean you must eat their heart out. I am may not like SidonXLink but I am not going jump done anyone’s throat. You guys do what you do. Just don’t push your beliefs on anyone ok. That’s all I ask.

What I meant for supportive is that he's just really, REALLY supportive, yhe way he goes against everyonr in Zora's Domain to defend Link as their only hope and saying Hylians are not bad people is a very bold move and the speech he gives to him when he calms Ruta is... Really enthusiastic and while I know all the champions and people you help are absolutely supportive of Link, their words for him are much more subdued, sublte and to the point, Revali even goes the tsundere way and says it's just luck (it's really cute he says he hopes it never runs out, though)
You are kinda right about Mipha but most shippers acknowledge that fact and, well, she's dead, Link barely remembers her and the one who could remember and is alive is Sidon and he doesn't recognize Link at first while everyone who knew him back then greets him, surprised that he's even alive so... I don't see too much problem with that, again seeing where you come from
About all the other options you mentioned... Mipha is the one I like the most, unfortunately, she is gone for good so he'd kinda be pining over a dead person, Zelda was down right a complete bitch with him, she was just almost polite at the very end at the very end of their time together and I don't think that's how you build a good relationship, he *just* met Paya and she varely speaks to him because of her shyness (her dairy is pure cuteness and it kinda broke my heart a little, though), so she's more or less in the same boat as Sidon
Midna spent the whole game as his companion and we actually saw tons of character development for her so there's a great potential there but... Everyone else is just as viable as Sidon, IMHO

I like sidon a lot and I do like the ship of him with Link,I even liked it before it was cool because I played the game right away the day it came out lol Funny because before meeting Sidon there is a girl that if you talk to her,she says that she meet the prince that was very playboyish with her,so that gave me the impression that Sidon was gonna be either competitive towars Link,(kinda like Ruvali) or either flirty with Link.
So I was really surprised when he turned out to be fanboying around Link lol It was very sweet and he is very sexy.
But yeah my favorite ship is still Ghiralink lol Ghirahim conquered my heart when I played skyward sword and I honestily find more interesting and investive the dynamic between him and Link then Sidon..
