Hinata was literally the first person in the village to see Naruto as a person. She still liked him when the rest of the village kept saying he should be seen as a monster at best. The reason she seemed boring was because Kishimoto sorely underutilized her. She was a very important part of Naruto's life who was never allowed to shine as her set up could have let her. Really sad...

Technically, Iruka was the first to acknowledge Naruto, even the manga confirmed that. The 'memories' from Naruto: The Last only shown events the main antagonist gleamed from Hinata's mind, not exactly an unbiased source as what was shown could of been what Hinata hoped happened.
