I wouldn't say soon, we are still at least 50 years away from working teleporters that would function the way we want them to. And no one is working on portal technology. So, yeah, we are not close to portal technology. Also, when I say teleporters that would function, I mean, actualy function as we want them to...but, ultimately, we wouldn't be able to use them because of the amount of energy required to teleport something any significant distance is well beyond what we are currently capable of. It would be a safe bet to say we won't see teleporter use for at least 100 more years. Possibly even for 200 years. By than, we might have the energy technology to power them.

pretty sure thinking with portals and portal_(object) are different tags. The latter is for any picture with a portal, whereas the former is for pictures involving this kind of portal shenanigans
