Could also follow the pattern that some series with cross-species have where it's twins/siblings where each kid is the same species as their other parent, so one's a catgirl and the other is a human or some shit lmao.

Anon1 It looks like almost all Octoling are Female (we have yet to see canon males) so for the survival of the species mating with inkling is a big possibility. They would probably only give birth to octoling.

Octolings could simply have a very skewed ratio of female:male births that octolings evolved to be able to reproduce with inklings with octoling phenotypical genes being dominant over inkling phenotypical genes.
