One of the true sad definition of what could have been. Instead of going forward with this, they punked out in the last minute and hired an idiot who had little respect towards the franchise!!!

A little too alligator-y for my taste.

^ Funny enough that's what the Legendary version reminds me of, if you read the script from the unmade 94 movie it's pretty clear they picked and choose some ideas for it when making Godzilla 2014.

Anon1 Stan Winston made this version. Sucks he passed away before the Monsterverse.

The irony is that executives freaked out over the budget cost for the unmade 1994 Godzilla film yet, when the 98 film came to be, the budget cost for that film is much greater than the unmade one! What sense does that make?!!

Were the same executives responsible for both projects?

Yes, they are and quite idiotic for dumping the original script and going for what is now known infamously for any Godzilla fans as the 98 film debacle that tarnished the franchise's good name. Toho had no choice but to revive the franchise in a direct response to the failure of the 98 film to correct the mistake Tristar did as a result.

Jan De Bont, the guy who was gonna direct the un-made 94 movie and had it taken away from him has been hired recently to work on the Monst5erverse.

You can tell this is Stan Winston's work.

Definitely gives of that Jurassic Park vibe.
