It's amusing that the first generation is the one most people (including me) is the absolute best since it's when the Pokémon popularity is in it's absolute peak where the rest became downhill since the writers won't let Ash grow as a character, just made him no more than plot device for promoting the new entries which is frustrating.

>where the rest became downhill since the writers won't let Ash grow as a character
>DP shows Ash learning and growing more through his battles especially against Paul
>XYZ is the absolute turning where people see that Pokemon has potential be even better when given capable writers even if Ash is still the face of the anime
>SM has filtered out idiots who know nothing about animation on top of proving that Ash character while goofy can be serious when times call for it which works even greater around a season made around such a comfy setting with a SoL genre
Congrats #2267492, you're blinded by nostalgia.

Not true, nostalgia can go only so far as I did watched all the episodes I can and all I see is very little. Ash was at his best during DP but was ruined by a literal deus ex machina which prevented him a complete victory. Black and white is where he is at his absolute stupidest. Who loses to an idiot who only has 5 pokemon?! XYZ returned his confidence and almost won the entire thing.........till he lost yet again despite having a type advantage and fooling the majority of the fanbase thanks to its horrendous bait-and-switch title card. The writers can do all the want with Ash, but everyone else gave up on Ash up to this point and moved on.

The only thing I can say is that there are people out there that are actually tired of Ash and his whole status quo bound to him.

It's not Ash's fault as much as it is the writers of the anime who won't let him win a fucking title.

Whenever if it's in-universe or out-universe, the fact remains that Ash will never win a single main tournament no matter how hard he tries. He's only there just to promote the games. So in that, he is a former shadow of what he is: instead being a genuine character we grew up with to support to win, he's no more than a plot device destined to fail as a plot convenience just to promote future games.

So losing the poke league negates everything else he has done? I agree that the status quo sucks but that's not all there is.

Really, pretty much everything that came after the Original series was essentially a rinse and repeat/remix.

Ash dumps all his Pokémon (sans Pikachu) off at Oak's or other.

Goes too a new land, with his experience either matured or reset.

Gets some traveling companions., consisting of at least one guy who like Brock can either cook or has a running gag. And girl to provide eye candy and ship teasing.

Goes around beating the gyms to collect badges while meeting COTD or facing off against the resident villain organisation.

Team Rocket show up to try and steal Pikachu, utilizing deep holes and paper thin disguises. Fail, and blast off.

Ash fights in league. Looses again, and goes home. Return to beginning.

Heck, Sun and Moon is pretty much the first time they attempted to break much of the existing formula, by having him stay in one place and have a regular ensemble supporting cast.
