Which is weird because Namco is usually so good at killing off moms and introducing next generation fighters/offspring of classic characters... right?

It just depends on how you do it. In Tekken 3, Jin Kazama was so awesome that will make you forgive just a little bit Kazuya's absence.

However, in Soul Calibur V, both Pyrrha and Patroklos are not so well developed. Pyrrha feels like a flanderized version of Sophitia because of her annoying tendency to apologize and cry a lot during Story Mode(although I like her Omega version better). And Patroklos is pretty much the flanderized version of Cassandra but way too much worse including his HORRENDOUS obsession with abusing the word JUSTICE, he kills people only because they look sick and pale, he CRIES a lot about he despise the malfested but he ended up without killing none, he refuses to listen to Siegfried and others for selfish and lame reasons, he is also a coward at the moment he realised his sister is a malfested, and for some INCEST-LIKE UNDERTONES(but kinda like his normal fighting style with the sword and shield, not the Setsuka-esque fighting style).
Yeah, THESE TWO CHARACTERS CAN BURN IN HELL.
