I kind of liked Videl and found her interesting before she ended up with Gohan. I also liked 18 before she ended up with Krillin. Not that the loving wife trope is bad but before they had motivations and screen time and felt like an actual person. Like maybe you want to spend more time with her, to get to know her, see her feelings develop and grow, her adjust and change to an unfamiliar and new setting like 18 becoming good or Videl realizing this larger world out there full of vastly powerful beings and coming to terms with her father being kind of a fraud. I mean you see glimpses of that but it feels like they kind of just fast forwarded it to love, marriage and a baby? Chi-Chi is another story but somehow similar.

That would've been the case if the story was more revolve around them, but alas it wasn't. That is why their developments seem rushed in certain events. At the end of the day. They're still wonderful characters. :)

Yeah. Toriyama is the worst at love development. It is why the fight scenes are more focused.

Toriyama admit himself that he is not very good at romance plot and don't like writing them that much. as far as i'm concerned, i prefer he stick to action and keep the romance at bare minimum, even if it seem rushed.
