I’m kind of torn. I think it’s terrible what happened to her but she’s sort of awesome as an Android. I mean if they made her human again, she wouldn’t be able to fight and just be standing off to the side all the time... I mean more so than she already does.
Also why is she still going by 18? Does she really not want to have a name (either a new one or the one she had before) instead of a number that was designated to her by the awful person she hated who tried to strip her of her identity, free-will and humanity? I hope it’s not the writers thinking that the audience would be too “confused” if a character that they knew suddenly went by a different moniker and there’s a legitimately good reason for it.

Isn’t there beings of higher or divine powers or a rap sheet of all the shit you’ve done in the afterlife? Also several sets of dragon balls. It feels like there’s a solution to any problem if you think really hard about it but there aren’t a lot of thinkers there. It also doesn’t explain why she’d keep accept the title of 18. It was given to her by someone who put a bomb in her body and tried to control her and take away her freewill. It’s like a someone getting out of prison and keeping their prisoner number.

She keeps the name because Toriyama thinks that we're stupid and will be instantly confused if she ended up using a different name.
