As much as I’m glad she got what she wanted. The relationship is still slightly unsettling to me, I mean she was just a orphaned child when he took her in and she was practically raised by him into maturity. I honestly would have preferred it if he realized it was wrong but her devotion allowed him to regain his trust in others and maybe take another chance with possibly opening up to another girl. He helps her with her trauma and becoming a healthy independent individual and she helps him with his issues.
I overall liked the story but I was definitely not thrilled with all the decisions they made or turns they took. Specifically making the older princess just a completely reprehensible bad guy that doesn’t even really feel like a person and more like a thing to despise. Even the king, the tool that he was was capable of change, redemption and was just a flawed person twisted by lies and bigotry.

Right, she was just orphaned and that's why she has nor eason to see him as a father...And it's not like Naofumi treated her like his child. He was a caretaker for her to an extent, but she was only a child with him for a little over a week...And despite taking care of her, he also made her fight.

There’s nothing wrong with them being together. It actually appears to be the norm for a partnership to have a noticeable age gap like with the king and queen, or how the queen tries to get her younger daughter to go with the hero in hopes that something will develop in the future. I mean Raph even actually ages and matures quickly closing any perceivable gap. But it feels questionable on the basis that a sort of already developed person literally sees this young lady grow up and mature before his very eyes and he still sort of views her as a child (although not necessarily his). Add that to the fact that he is probably her first love making it seem like it’s her not being fully mature or experienced in matters of romance. Not saying you don’t or can’t end up with the your first crush however unlikely the case may be. Naofumi is probably not fully mature either and is supposedly inexperienced with girls too but that’s probably all more the reason for why the whole thing is probably a bad idea.
But things worked out between them so whatever I guess. You really can’t help who you have feelings for.

It seems odd because theyre relationship was akin to a "Older brother, younger sister" thing, but Raphtalia aged and matured extremely fast. I see no problem with this; He gave her what she wanted. Long as its someone you genuinely love, its totally fine.

One needs to keep in mind that Raphtalia was the one girl who saved his soul and prevented him from hating women completely, being unable to trust anyone, and turning into an Omnicidal Maniac Demon Lord hellbent on trying to destroy the world that only ever treated him with deception, scorn, and hatred labeling him a devil just for the fact that he got the shield and not some other weapon. Even the ones who worship the shield were lead by those who wanted to use him as a weapon for global conquest and then dispose of him when he was no longer useful.
She is the biggest reason why the Cursed Shield of Wrath has not completely consumed his mind to drive him to achieve his vengeance and destroy that world. She is literally the biggest reason why he has been able to stay the Shield Hero and he loves her to the point that he would destroy entire nations just for threatening her. She is his foundation holding him attached to that world and actually caring to some degree for the inhabitants.
Not to mention from Raphtalia's point of view he is the one who saved her mind and soul from her own desire to die. He gave her a purpose when she had lost everything. He gave her a reason to live despite the pain and suffering that was merely existing in the living hell that was being a slave and seeing her friends die before her eyes. He chased away the despair that was driving her to blame herself for everything going wrong. He gave her the strength to be able to chase a better future.
Them NOT falling in love with each other, when they are holding each other up from falling into the abyss and becoming mentally disabled living corpse monsters seeking destruction, would have been completely unnatural.
