Well, it is a button. I would guess the idea is pushing it will summon security or police to your location. It might even emit a loud noise.

It`s a hard alarm that makes an incredible hard sound, and warns everyone in the neighborhood. But it`s pretty useless if noones around, or you knock her out faster than she can pull her alarm.
