What's up with the weird location of the wings on many of these monster girls? Wouldn't they be a bit more functional higher on the torso?

Just like how wings in the back wouldn't work either?
Some believe is closer to the human's body center of gravity, other say is an artistic choice, but wings that aren't located in the arms aren't that good to use to fly.
