This is definitely how it should be most of the time. The only exception that immediately comes to mind is Oreimo where she was probably the worst option. Still a bit salty Kuroneko didn't win even though I saw that coming. Wouldn't be as bad if MC's sister turned down the tsun more as the story progressed.
Hmm now I'm wondering if there are any harems where the yandere wins instead. Don't remember that being a thing.
