Folks, be honest with yourselves. Simon and Shinji started out exactly the same. Shinji got worse because he had no one to guide or encourage him. Simon got better. If you put Shinji in Simon's shoes, he would have become a hardcore badass too.

The entire point of TTGL is 'What if Shinji had a good role model?'
