From the Meiji era (1868-1912) through the Taisho era (1912-1926), research was done on improving seed quality and selecting cultivation areas.
These various efforts resulted in the Hinona turnip that are still distributed to this day.
Also, the field lands in Hino don't have good soil quality.
But grown in rich soil outside of Hino, the leaves become larger while the taste becomes earthy and less subtle.
