i don't condone tracing but practicing by copying the works of others helps. eventually you'll pick up some of their good habits and your own will get better and your own style will improve gradually. drawing fan art a lot is one of the best ways to improve your skills but keep in mind that doing this might also lead to you picking up some of their bad habits as well.
