We don't believe in temporary. If someone has done something worth staff acting on with the multiple warnings we give, or something bad enough for us to act without sending warnings first, we don't trust them not to do it again in the future. |

The block is not automated, it requires direct intervention from staff. It is applied as a result of having a large number of deleted comments. For it to be applied, the user must have posted a large number of comments that ended up getting deleted and very few that get kept. When this happens, it falls into the territory of "something bad enough for us to act without sending warnings first", and as such is a situation where we do not trust them not to do it again. These mutes, which happen as a result of mod intervention, are permanent by design. Before we implemented the block, the same behavior would have resulted in a permanent ban from the site as a whole. |
