Summary: | Score value may be misleading |
Description: | I have the impression that scores are simple incremented. Meaning that older pictures will have a higher score even if it is not warranted. For example, if a picture has been in the database for 100 days, and receives one vote per day, then it will have a score of 100. If another picture is posted today, and receives 10 votes per day, it will take 10 days for it to "overtake" the old picture. Even though, by having 10 votes per day, it is clearly more popular. Granted, this is a contrived example, but I have the impression of seeing images of better quality with low scores, and pictures with bad quality with high scores. For example, Picture 1: http://gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=316049 Posted: 2008-08-16 Score (as of 27. Feb. 2013): 16 Picture 2: http://gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=1805395 Posted: 2013-02-26 Score: 7 The first picture has been posted 1656 days ago. This gives it 0.0097 posts per day, whereas the second picture is posted 1 day ago, which gives it 7 posts per day, and trying to look at it objectively, the second picture is of much better quality, and should have a higher score. But in the current search it will rank lower. In my opinion, it would be great to be able to search and sort on a "score per day" value as well. While this is still unlikely the best statistical method, it is very easy to implement, as there is already a posting date. |
