She is the main singer of the Korean female hip hop group 2ne1 and is the oldest member of the group. Prior to 2NE1, she was featured on a few other YG Entertainment artists' singles and music videos during the mid-2000s. In spite of 2ne1's popularity, her reputation was significantly damaged due to a drug scandal, which originated in 2010. In 2010, she was investigated for drug smuggling 80 amphetamine tablets sent through mail by her family living in the United States. Said prescription drugs were legal in U.S. but illegal in South Korea and were meant to help with Bom's persistent depression problems. Initially, the event was mostly ignored, but in 2014, Segye Ilbo exposed the story, and it turned into a major scandal causing Bom to go on an extended hiatus and halting all current projects, but she still participated in 2NE1 concerts.
