It was released on September 18, 2010. It is a direct sequel to the second season of gundam_00 and is made by the same cast and crew. Although the film centers around a conflict that is different from its predecessor, it assumes the audience has seen the first and second seasons, so be wary of spoilers if you haven't seen them.. It has been two years since Celestial Being has defeated the Innovators and finally succeeded in ending war between humans. All of the surviving characters are settling into this new era of peace with Celestial Being and their Gundams themselves fading into the background, watching over humanity and maintaining peach from the shadows. However, the peace is broken once strange metal fragments land on Earth and spark a series of what seem to be freak accidents. The scientists studying the fragments and Celestial Being soon realize that these are no accidents and that the fragment is actually part of a non human alien species drawn to humans with Innovator potential. This alien species, dubbed Extraterrestrial Living-metal Shape-shifters (ELS), has the ability to shapeshift, and assimilate its targets, but lacks the ability to communicate with humans making them utterly inscrutable. The pilots of Celestial Being wants to avoid a deadly war, even against this potentially dangerous species, seeking to create peace through understanding and communication. However, the ELS incidents steadily increase in deadliness and intensity pushing humanity closer to waging a catastrophic war with the ELS. Celestial Being must find a way to reach out to and communicate with the ELS before humanity gets drawn into a potentially bloodier war than the one it just survived. Although the film is still thematically in line with most Gundam entries, it is unique amongst in that it is the only entry to center around a conflict that isn't between humans, but rather about a conflict between humans and a completely alien species.
