Despite what the title implies, the game is actually a direct sequel to Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories and there are spoilers for that game and for the first game within this game and the following summary. The game is again directed by Nomura_Tetsuya who also handled the character designs. The story was written by Nojima Kazushige and the artwork was handled by Odashi_Takayuki. The soundtrack was composed by Shimomura Yoko. Sora, Donald, and Goofy awaken from the state of suspended animation that they were put into in order to correct their memories at the end of Chain of Memories. A year has passed during this process and Sora has grown older. But they have little time to rest for Riku is still missing and the remaining members of Organization XIII who the heroes have dealt with previously are on the move, sending beings known as Nobodies, heartless shells of strong hearted people whose souls have been removed, to wreak havoc around the universe. The trio embark on another journey to stop Organization XIII and find Riku. The game cuts down on the amount of platforming segments that the first game had and expands on the combat system. Battles in the game are also much larger in scale. The Gummi Ship battle segments are also much more elaborate than the first game. The game marks the first time characters from live action Disney films were included in the series. It adds Pirates of the Carribean to the roster of Disney films even though it is a live action film series; the characters from the films are also designed to look like they did in the films but they are not voiced by the same actors. It also adds the movie Tron into the series. Cloud Strife and Tifa Lockhart are in the game and sport their looks in Advent Children. This game is also the first Kingdom Hearts game to feature musical sequences, which are sung by the seiyuus themselves, that the Disney's animations are famous for. The game also begins with an extended tutorial level/prologue featuring new character Roxas who is revealed to have a connection to hero Sora. His character's backstory is expanded in the following Kingdom Hearts 358 Days/2. The game received generally positive critical reviews upon release and sold over 4 million copies worldwide by March 31, 2007. The game received two rereleases, Final Mix and HD 2.5 Remix which added new gameplay and story elements.
