Now Viewing: kiryuuin_ragyouTag type: Character Kiryuuin Satsuki's mother and one of the main antagonists of Kill_La_Kill. She is an adult woman with short white hair except for the bottom half of her hair which is rainbow colored. Like her daughter, she is able to spontaneously emit a blinding light just by her incredible presence. Unlike her daughter who only does this when she is standing on a higher platform delivering a speech, Ragyou does this almost all the time and her light is rainbow colored like her hair. Her subordinates can only look at her directly when they're wearing sunglasses, but Satsuki and Harime Nui are able to look at Ragyou directly without sunglasses. Ragyou also has prominent eyebrows like her daughter and has scars all over her back which resemble the stars on Goku uniforms. Satsuki has also inherited Ragyou's booming and commanding voice. While she has a lot in common with her daughter, they also differ in key aspects: Ragyou believes that clothing is the original sin, borne out of the shame the first humans felt at being aware of their nakedness. Satsuki, however, believes that clothes are not sinful and they are what connects people. Ragyou is also closer to Harime Nui, allowing Nui to do whatever she wants, whereas Satsuki strongly dislikes Nui in spite of her formidable strength. Unlike her daughter, Ragyo often smiles in a sinister fashion. Ragyou is a highly arrogant woman who feels that she is above the rest of humanity thanks to her association with the Life Fibers. She is also very callous in personality, willing to do anything and use anyone in her research on the Life Fibers. Her own family members are not exempt from her cruelty and she is willing to dispose of them if they cease to be of use to her. They are perhaps the biggest victims of Ragyou's actions. Ragyou is largely responsible for the destroying of relations between the Kiryuuin family members as the rest of them end up turning against her. This also makes her directly and indirectly responsible for the majority of the series' conflict.Ragyou is almost always accompanied by her assistant Hououmaru Rei who is very loyal to her. She is the CEO of the Revocs Corporation, which has a virtual monopoly on the world's clothing, and also owns Hounnoji Academy. Due to her status, few people are able to oppose her or her daughter. She has an enormous wardrobe full of fancy Kamui dresses. All of the clothing the company designs has life fibers in them. Her work at the company is also a cover for her true work, COVERS which is an anagram of her company's name. She is working with the original Primordial Life Fiber which is hidden away in her company building and she is planning to feed the Life Fiber people by activating the life fibers within the clothing her customers purchase. Upon activation, the people are trapped within a Life Fiber cocoon, ripe for being consumed by the Life Fiber. She holds the Primordial Life Fiber in high esteem, treating it like a god. She also has a strong fixation on her daughter, having a tendency to grope her in an abnormally intimate manner as well as having an interest in what her daughter is doing. She is the only person that Satsuki acts subservient to but in reality, Satsuki opposes everything her mother stands for. She only acts obedient to deflect suspicion of her true intention to rebel against and kill her mother and destroy the life fibers. Satsuki is closer to the Elite Four and her butler Soroi Mitsuzo than she is to Ragyou. Ragyou is also no longer a normal human. Most of her body is now made of Life Fibers. This gives her the ability to survive injuries that would be fatal for normal humans. As long as the life fibers in her neck are not completely severed, she can survive anything and eventually regenerate all wounds. She can also use Life Fibers to mind control others and can mind control many people at the same time, giving her the ability to instantly create an army or hijack someone else's. She is also extremely strong physically and is a good enough fighter that she can defeat a Junketsu-wearing Satsuki using only her fists without having to wear a special uniform. Ragyou is also capable of wearing Junketsu and manages to make better use of the uniform than Satsuki does. All of these abilities make Ragyou the most powerful and dangerous antagonist in the series. She also has a few traits in common with her other daughter, Matoi Ryuuko. They both have bodies that have been fused with with Life Fibers as well as multicolored hair. Her theme song is Blumenkranz, the only song in German on the Kill la Kill soundtrack. It has lyrics written by Rie and is performed by Cyua. Although the song is associated with Ragyou, the song debuted before Ragyou was introduced. The song first played when Ryuuko unveils Senketsu for the first time during the battle with Fukuroda Takaharu in the first episode of the series, foreshadowing Ryuuko's connection with Ragyou.
