久保 帯人

Mangaka born on Jun. 26, 1977 in Hiroshima, Japan. Ever since he was in elementary school, he aspired to be a mangaka. He was finally able to achieve this dream in 1996 when his debut oneshot, Ultra Unholy Hearted Machine, was published in Weekly Shounen Jump. After a few one-shots, he worked on his first extended manga, Zombie_Powder, which was suddenly discontinued after a few volumes when he suffered a breakdown while making it. He later explained that the breakdown was the result of his inexperience with working on a serial manga and paying too much attention to what his editors said at the cost of being able to express his own ideas. Bleach, his most famous series, ran for over a decade, but Kubo ended up suffering from similar problems as his past work towards the end of the manga's run.

Whenever he feels stuck on where the story should go next, he often creates new characters. This tendency of his is likely one of the reasons why Bleach has such an enormous cast. He often puts a lot more detail into the characters themselves with background detail kept to a minimum.

He also worked on supplementary material for Bleach like the Bleach character books which elaborate on some plot and character details that are unclear in the source material.

He likes to incorporate a lot references to music and draw covers with his characters wearing trendy clothes. He also played Kon in the Bleach film Memories of Nobody.

He cites Mizuki_Shigeru's Gegege_no_Kitaro and Kurumada_Masami's Saint_Seiya as his biggest inspirations. The former inspired his interest in the supernatural while he loved the latter's action scenes and weaponry which influenced his work on Bleach. Seiya also inspired Kubo to take drawing seriously and contributed to his decision to become a professional mangaka. He also cites Dragon_Ball as his biggest inspiration when creating villains; Dragon Ball taught him that antagonists should be intimidating and powerful without exception; Kubo also cites Trunks' introduction as the action sequence that shocked him the most. Dragon Ball creator Toriyama Akira also wrote a letter encouraging Kubo after he read Kubo's original concept for Bleach, which inspired Kubo to press on.

Due to some highly controversial storytelling decisions made in Bleach combined with Bleach's persistent popularity, Kubo has also developed a memetic reputation as being a troll. In fan art and edited images, he is often depicted wearing sunglasses, based off a photo with him wearing them while crossing his arms.
