Now Viewing: my-otomeTag type: Copyright Spinoff/possible distant sequel to My-hime. In any case, the series is stand alone and does not require knowledge of My-HiME to understand. Like its predecessor, there is a TV series version and a manga version, which are both different despite having the same characters. The former debuted in 2005 and is stylistically similar to the original with most of the cast and crew returning from the original. It also has a similar tone to the first, starting off relatively light and comedic before taking a very dark turn halfway through. Its title is also an elaborate pun like My-HiME's. It is set on the planet Earl whose population primarily consists of immigrants from Earth. The planet is unique in that its most powerful weapons are female virgins who have been given incredible powers thanks to nano machines. The technology used to give these girls powers is known as the Lost Technology. These girls are known as Otome and they are highly regarded by the population and are often tasked with the duty of protecting rulers of kingdoms. Yumemiya Arika is one of the many girls who wish to become an Otome just like her mother was. She heads to Windbloom Kingdom and joins Garderobe Academy which has the technology necessary to create an Otome in the hopes of becoming one. Once there, she forms a friendship with Nina Wang, who also aspires to be an Otome, and the spoiled heir to the throne of Windbloom Kingdom, Mashiro Blan de Windbloom. The road to becoming an Otome is a difficult one and Arika must deal with some fierce competitors who are not above using more vicious tactics to get ahead, but Arika maintains her optimistic attitude. However, a cult known as Schwartz is seeking to nab the Lost Technology for their own purposes. As the cult launches its plan, Arika, Nina, and Mashiro are pulled apart and their lives are changed forever. The series was popular enough to spawn an OVA direct sequel called My-Otome Zwei and a prequel OVA telling the story of Arika's mother, My-Otome 0~S.ifr~.
