Now Viewing: south_parkTag type: Copyright A satirical western animated television show created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone who also voice act many of the male characters. It began in 1997 and is still ongoing. It has received a movie, also created by Parker and Stone, and multiple video game adaptations. It is an episodic series that follows the various misadventures of a group of four very crude young boys: Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick in the town of South Park. Many of the humorous events the boys and the town's residents become embroiled in are based off of current political, pop cultural, etc. events. The series is noted for making fun of virtually everything, including topics that may be considered sensitive to some people and it has occasionally encountered controversy for this reason. Nevertheless, the show and its racy humor has remained popular. Japanese pop culture has been poked fun at in a few episodes of the series like one episode called Chinpokemon parodying Pokemon and its popularity amongst children. Trey Parker is also fluent in Japanese and he used his language skills to create a goofy Japanese anime esque song called Let's Fighting Love! for the series. Except for the first episode, the series is animated using computer software although its visual style resembles paper cut outs. The use of computers to animate makes production of episodes move along much faster and enables the series to make more up to date topical references. Despite the series' colorful visual style and young main characters, the series is not intended for children. It is full of adult-oriented humor, profanity, and grisly violence.
