She is a powerful female magic with a mastery of time based magic and manipulates the time of objects. She can restore destroyed objects back to their original shape and create numerous copies of her orb attacks which represent multiple paths. Besides her formidable magic powers, she is also a skilled manipulator and for much of the early arcs of Fairy Tail, she backstabs many of the people she works with while pursuing her own agenda. She is also responsible for corrupting Jellal which has had numerous tragic repercussions on his life. The only person she is consistently loyal to is Meredy, whom she has a soft spot for. She is the daughter of Gray's beloved deceased mentor Ur and looks like her except that Ultear has longer hair. Unlike Gray and Lyon's admiration and love for Ur, Ultear has a serious grudge against her and disparages Ur every time she is mentioned. In reality, Ultear is under the mistaken impression that her mother Ur abandoned her and replaced her with Gray and Lyon. Ur had taken Ultear to a laboratory because Ultear had an incredible amount of magic which was a taking a toll on her health. Fascinated with the talented young girl, the scientists lied to Ur and told her that Ultear died, giving them full reign to experiment on her as much as they want. After Ultear escaped for the first time, she saw Ur interacting with Gray and Lyon and jumped to conclusions. Ultear desperately wants to go back in time so that she can be loved again by her mother. After Gray defeats her at Sirius Island, she realizes the truth about her mother and how much her mother truly loved and missed her. Ultear is swamped with intense guilt over her many misdeeds she committed in the pursuit of her goal. She spends the next seven years fighting to atone for her past crimes alongside Jellal and Meredy.
