Now Viewing: zenigata_kouichiTag type: Character 銭形 幸一 A black_haired man who wears a brown hat and longcoat. His has a distinctive chin where the middle part arches down, and resembles the top of his hat. He is one of the main recurring characters of the lupin_iii franchise and the only one to not be part of Lupin's crew. His role was inspired by the comedy cartoon Tom and Jerry with Zenigata playing the Tom to Lupin's Jerry. Like Lupin, he is a descendent of a famous ancestor, the great detective Zenigata Heiji. Zenigata is a member of Interpol and is known for his unwavering dedication to arresting Lupin, a task he has never truly succeeded in for long, as Zenigata always finds himself just one step behind the phantom thief. His repeated failures to catch the thief leads some to regard him as a bumbling fool. However, Zenigata knows Lupin and his methods better than any other police officer and people who dismiss Zenigata's advice end up being outsmarted themselves by Lupin. Zenigata sees capturing Lupin as his greatest task and respects the thief on some level. The feeling is mutual from Lupin's end, with Lupin considering Zenigata as his favorite adversary. Furthermore, Zenigata is able to put aside his Lupin obsession if the situation is sufficiently dire and is willing to call a truce with Lupin in order to take down a greater threat. In combat, Zenigata uses special handcuffs attached to a rope, which he flings at suspects to catch them from a distance, and is a challenge to opponents thanks to his sheer bull-headed determination. His demeanor often varies depending on the tone of a particular Lupin installment. In the more lighthearted and comedic entries, Zenigata provides comic relief from his own quirks and being outsmarted and humiliated by Lupin. In darker Lupin stories, Zenigata is portrayed as a more serious and dignified character who doesn't suffer from as many comedic mishaps. His leitmotif is Zenigata March, composed by Ohno Yuji, which makes an appearance in almost all Lupin media scored by Ohno. He was originally voiced by Chikaishi_Shinsuke in the 1969 pilot, who was replaced by Ohtsuka_Chikao in 1970 TV version of the pilot. Starting from Lupin III Part 1, he was voiced by Naya_Gorou, who provided the voice most closely associated with Zenigata. He played Zenigata in all appearances, save Fuuma Conspiracy where he was voiced by Katou_Seizou and Lupin III D2 Manga where he was voiced by Kishino_Yukimasa, until 2012. Although Zenigata is effectively a main character of the franchise, due to Naya's declining health in the last few years of his life, Zenigata's role was reduced in the Lupin installments released in that time frame. Starting with 2011's Chi no Kokuin, Eien no Mermaid, he was replaced with Yamadera_Kouichi who has played Zenigata since, and accordingly, he received more screen time again. In live action, he has been played by Itou Shirou (Strange Psychokinetic Strategy), Asano Tadanobu (2014 movie) and Suzuki Ryohei (Inspector Zenigata TV series).
