Now Viewing: platinum_gamesTag type: Copyright (プラチナゲームズ株式会社) Tag refers to images featuring games created by this video game development company. It was founded in August 1, 2006 by Mikami Shinji, Inaba Atsushi, and Kamiya_Hideki, all of whom were former Capcom employees. The three men and many developers who joined the company were originally part of Capcom's Clover Studios which developed games like Viewtiful Joe and Ookami. Although their output was critically acclaimed, they did not sell well enough for Capcom's liking and the studio was eventually closed down. Mikami, Inaba, and Kamiya left Capcom to form a company called Seeds. At the same time, fellow ex-Capcom employee Minami Tatsuya founded a company called Odds and the decision was made to combine both companies into one, which became Platinum. Platinum began making games with Sega, starting with 2009's Madworld and their most well known creation Bayonetta, but Platinum's relationship with Sega eventually soured, leading them to primarily work with Nintendo. Starting with Metal Gear Rising in 2013, Platinum began developing games for other IPs alongside their original work, including adaptations of popular animations like The Legend of Korra, as a way of helping keep the company afloat. The company, as well as the studio it was originally derived from, is well known for frequently making over the top spectacle fighter action games that are often quite difficult. Their games are often praised critically, but are rarely big financial successes.
