Now Viewing: the_legend_of_zelda:_the_wind_wakerTag type: Copyright (ゼルダの伝説 風のタクト Zeruda no Densetsu Kaze no Takuto) A nintendo game. Part of the The_Legend_Of_Zelda series. This game features a new link design commonly known as Toon_Link. It was released for the Gamecube in 2002-2003. It is notable for its cel-shaded and cartoonish visual style which has been retained for its direct sequels Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks as well as Four Swords and Minish Cap. It is directed by Aonuma Eiji and produced by Tezuka Takashi and Miyamoto Shigeru. Music is composed by Kondo Koji, Nagata Kenta, Wakai Hajime, and Minegishi Toru. It is set in a Hyrule that has been completely flooded for years, centuries after the end of Ocarina of Time. Link is a young boy living peacefully in Outset Island with his sister Aryll, and his grandmother. On his birthday, Link witnesses pirate girl Tetra being carried by a giant bird, known as the Helmaroc King. The bird is attacked by a ship, forcing it to drop Tetra into a forest. Link goes off to find her, but after he escorts her to safety, his sister Aryll is kidnapped by the King. Link and Tetra learn that the bird has been kidnapping girls and taking them to the Forsaken Fortress. Aryll is one of the bird's many victims. Tetra agrees to help Link and the two head to the Forsaken Fortress. But the mission fails and Link is dumped into the middle of the ocean. Link is rescued by a talking boat, the King of Red Lions, who informs him about Ganondorf, whom Link had briefly met face to face at the fortress. Ganon had returned from being sealed away and can only be defeated by the Master Sword, which is locked away in the Tower of the Gods. Link sets sail on the King of Red Lions to recover three pearls that will unlock the Tower of the Gods and use the Master Sword to defeat Ganondorf, but a series of unexpected revelations changes the course of Link's adventure. The game's main form of travel is sailing and there's relatively little land in contrast to past games. Link has the ability to control the wind with the conductor's baton, known as the Wind Waker. The game also has connectivity with the Game Boy Advance. After rescuing Tingle, Link will be given the Tingle Tuner and chart. Upon connecting the Game Boy Advance, Tingle will assist Link in his adventure. It also features a 2nd Quest mode. After beating the game, the player can play through a slightly different adventure. The Hylian text featured throughout the game will be translated and Link and Aryll wear different clothes. The game notably received a lot of pre-release controversy due to its use of cel-shading. Besides people disliking the way the characters were designed, part of the controversy stemmed from a misunderstanding. When showcasing the Gamecube's capabilities in 2000, Nintendo provided footage of Link battling Ganondorf which was rendered in an art style similar to Ocarina of Time's but more graphically advanced. Said footage was well received and people expected the next Zelda game to be in a similar style and were shocked when Wind Waker turned out to have a radically different art style. Despite the controversy, the game received strong positive critical reception upon release and sold 4.6 million copies world wide. Nevertheless, the heated pre-release controversy influenced the creation of Twilight Princess which adopts a grittier art style. It has also received a stage based off of the game in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It was re-released on the Nintendo Wii U with graphical updates and some changes like the addition of a harder difficulty mode and the ability to have Link take a picture of himself anywhere.
