He was born on July 21, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois. Some of his most famous roles include Genie_(Aladdin) from Aladdin, Sean Maguire from Good Will Hunting which he won an Oscar for, and Mork from Mork and Mindy. He was a shy boy, but overcame his shyness when he became involved in his high school drama club. At the same time, he was developing his style of humor and became known for his ability to make his peers laugh. Williams eventually attained a scholarship to the New York Julliard school where he attended class alongside future Hollywood actors like Christopher Reeve, and William Hurt. Williams started his professional career as a stand up comedian and after he gained recognition for his comedic abilities, he began appearing on TV and film, starting with his first major role being Mork in Happy Days and its spinoff Mork and Mindy. As an actor, he often alternated between starring in comedies and dramas, and films that were a mixture of the two. He was famous for his skill at rapid fire improv comedy, to the point that writers would often designate certain sections of the script, where Williams was free to improvise however he wished because what he came up with was funnier than anything they had in mind, and his fellow actors would have to do their best to keep up with him. Williams also used his improv abilities to entertain his friends and interviewers. Williams was also a big fan of The_Legend_of_Zelda franchise to the point that he named one of his children after the eponymous character and appeared in advertisements for the series. In spite of making many people laugh over the years, Williams suffered from depression and substance abuse problems throughout his life, but he managed to find ways to cope with his problems over his multi-decade career. However, in the last year of his life, he learned that he had contracted Lewy body disease, which severely damaged his mental health. Williams became painfully aware of his steadily eroding mind and decided to commit suicide on August 11, 2014.
