Now Viewing: amaterasuTag type: None Amaterasu (天照), Amaterasu-ōmikami (天照大神／天照大御神) or Ōhiru-menomuchi-no-kami (大日孁貴神) is a sun goddess and one of the principal Shinto deities (神 kami). The meaning of her name, Amaterasu-ōmikami, is "the great august kami who shines in the heaven". She was born from the left eye of Izanagi as he purified himself in a river and went on to become the ruler of the Higher Celestial Plain (Takamagahara). She is also said to be directly linked in lineage to the Imperial Household of Japan and the Emperor, who are considered descendants of the kami themselves. Although Amaterasu predates virtually every character and series featured on Gelbooru, the tag for the most part refers to the video game Okami's depiction of Amaterasu. In Okami, she takes the form of a white wolf. She is a benevolent goddess/wolf with a strong connection to nature; many animals are quite friendly with her and don't fear her, and when she runs, she creates a trail of blooming flowers. She never speaks and Issun does the talking for her. She seems to be easily distracted and reluctant to listen to long conversations. Many times, when a character is spouting off a lot of exposition, she will be shown doing other things like taking a nap or playing around. She also likes Holy Bones and uses a special reality warping brush called the Celestial Brush as a weapon and to also recreate things.
