Now Viewing: aa_megami-samaTag type: Copyright Long running urban fantasy romantic comedy series created by Fujishima_Kousuke and one of the most iconic examples of the magical girlfriend romance story in anime/manga as well as Fujishima's longest running and most popular work. The title translates to Ah! My Goddess. It is also known as Oh! My Goddess in North America. The manga ran from September 24, 1988 to April 25, 2014. It has been adapted into anime multiple times with the 2005 TV series being the most faithful to the manga. While the anime adaptations vary in tone and faithfulness to source, they are all directed by Gohda Hiroaki. The anime adaptations also use the same voice actors for the characters but Noto_Mamiko replaces Asami_Junko as Mishima Sayoko in the TV series. It has also been adapted into a 2007 light novel called Ah! My Goddess First End by Touma_Yumi, Urd's voice actress, with artwork by Fujishima and Matsubara_Hidenori. The basic concept of the series was inspired by both Norse mythology and an one shot joke from Fujishima's previous series You're Under Arrest. Kobayakawa Miyuki, one of the female leads of said series, appeared as a goddess in a yonkama and a You're Under Arrest T-shirt. Morisato Keiichi is a friendly but somewhat lonely and unlucky college student. Although he is friends with his fellow Motor Club members, he has been unlucky when it comes to romance. One day, Keiichi unintentionally manages to get in touch with the Goddess Technical Help Line and soon afterwards, the beautiful and gentle goddess Belldandy materializes in his room. She tells him that because of his kind nature, she will grant any wish. Keiichi is instantly smitten with her and impulsively asks her to stay with him. She complies, but Keiichi's dorm does not allow any women to stay, so Keiichi and Belldandy are thrown out. The two of them move into a Buddhist temple as their new home and strike up a chaste romance. Although the series has multiple attractive female characters, the series is relatively tame in terms of fanservice and has a more gentle and laid-back feel with the exception of a few story arcs. The series also portrays Heaven as a mixture of Norse mythology and science fiction. As the series has run for a long time, the art style of the manga and its adaptations has changed considerably and some characters look completely different in their later appearances from their debut. While the in-universe characters have not aged much, the characters' costumes and the series technology have changed in order to be more contemporary. The 2005 anime TV series, which adapted the early chapters of the manga, also updated everything to reflect the 2000s.
