Now Viewing: airTag type: Copyright Tag refers to the supernatural drama eroge and series created by Key_(Company). Not to be confused with the stuff you breathe. The visual novel debuted on September 8, 2000 and is considered to be a spiritual successor to Kanon. Like Kanon, it has been released in both a H version with sex scenes and a clean version, which removes them. It was written by Maeda Jun and Ishikawa Takashi. The characters were designed by Hinoue_Itaru. The anime adaptations follow the clean version. It is set in the rural seaside town of Kasumi, Japan (the town in real life has been combined with two other towns to form the city Kami) in the middle of the summer. Drifter Kunisaki Yukito is down on his luck. He has the special ability to make a doll move independently, but this talent has yet to make him a decent amount of money, leaving him little food or a place to stay. He is also searching for a girl in the sky, which his mother had told him about, but he is not making much progress on that task either. Soon after he arrives, he meets an eccentric but friendly girl named Kamio Misuzu who seems to desire a friendship with him even though they had just met. Yukito is baffled by her behavior but goes along with her because she offers him a place to stay and eat. As he settles into his new residence, he meets Kirishima Kano, Tohno Minagi, and Michiru. He soon realizes that each of the girls he meets have deep seated personal issues as well as a connection with the supernatural. Yukito helps them resolve their issues and comes closer to finding the girl in the sky. . . The visual novel has been adapted into an anime TV series by Kyoto_Animation and an anime film by Toei, both released in 2005. The former was the first of the Key/Kyoto Animation collaborations and even includes a cameo by three of the heroines of Kanon, with their original seiyuus reprising their roles, which KyotoAnimation would adapt in 2006. It was directed by Ishihara Tatsuya and written by Shimo Fumihiko with characters designed by Ikeda_Kazumi. It also reuses music from the visual novel. The three of them would do the same for Kyoto Animation's subsequent adaptations of Key's seasonal trilogy. The film, directed by Dezaki Osamu, is significantly different from the visual novel and the more faithful TV anime though it retains some of the source's story concepts and still has a similar ending to the novel and series. It has also received manga adaptations which are notable for significantly altering the source's ending. The series is notable for its detailed depiction of Kasumi prior to being combined. The novel and the TV anime's story is structured differently from Kanon; the story is split into three major parts called Dream, Summer, and Air. The first part is like Kanon with Yukito helping out the various girls he meets with their problems, but the story shifts focus afterwards with Summer being a flashback arc and Air offering a new perspective on the Dream arc as well as serving as the conclusion of the story. Maeda structured the story in this fashion to give readers the chance to experience a whole story rather than go through different paths that seem to have no relation to each other. The novel and anime also place a strong emphasis on family relations, which is a theme that Key's next visual novel CLANNAD revolves around. The original visual novel sold over 300,000 copies. Its characters have also appeared in the doujin fighting game Eternal Fighter Zero.
