without this repliforce crisis, Zero would have been one very Lucky reploid.

Or maybe not, considering Zero is supposed to be cold & merciless. He was created specifically for combat.

He was not meant to be the amorous type, which is why I don't like Luca Gilbertson's "surfer"-esque voice for him in the English dubs of later games.

Yes, but that is one of the points, Zero was getting further from what Willy envisaged him to be, he was becoming better.
theses event made him colder. You can even notice that Zero is acting more serious in X5. he even stopped doing "thumbs up" in his victory pose.

Zero stopped being what Wily intended the moment he first met X and didn't try to destroy him. Afterwards he was free to choose his path. This is where his personality was Split between his Default programming of the endless destruction of Lights creations and by extension Reploids which were modeled in a way that Zero's system recognized them as Light's creations (Omega) and the Maverick Hunter who fought for good and would have had no interest in any of Dr Wily's schemes. (Zero)

I love Iris is the best heroin from Rockman X.
Please bring back Iris in the following versions of the game.

It doesn't really matter whether Zero was anymore interested in Wily's plans for him.

The point is, being cold & merciless in battle is a continuous part of his character. It's right in the Complete Works too.
^
He NEVER shows mercy or hesitates in battle, even against a human opponent. Whereas X would definitely hesitate.

In all honesty, we have no idea what Wily wanted for Zero outside of being something to destroy Rock. Really, it may be that he never turned out to be what Wily had hoped, since he only ever seemingly became active a century too late with all the classic characters no longer around.

Zero is a professional when it comes to combat. He gives no quarter and expects none in return. He's cold and merciless because that is the nature of war, and that's exactly what all of the Maverick shit is, a war. He wants the fight to be over, and the fastest way to do so is to crush the enemy, so he goes at them full force.

Zero has also shown time and again that he doesn't just fight to fight. He fought for the sake of X's dream of peace, and in his own series, he fought for Ciel's dream of peace. He refused the title of hero, claiming that he was unworthy of it specifically because he was only ever doing what he could for the sake of something better: the dream of peace.

The games have also shown that he's not just all about violence. X being his friend alone shows that he's more than just a murder machine, while Iris being in love with him hints that he's not as cold outside of battle as he is in it.

The entire Repliforce incident took a heavy toll on him, mentally and emotionally, as it did with X. Which is likely why in X8 he didn't pick up on how Layer felt, or maybe he specifically kept her at arms length and acted oblivious to keep himself from getting close. It may also be why his rejection of the idea that he's some kind of hero was baked into him, even after he lost his memory in the Zero series; he had failed to save those he was close to.

Anonymous >> #2135625 You can blame Sigma for that

Anonymous >> #2484541 And amen ,

Wily’s purpose for Zero was he wanted Zero to be a god of destruction and rule the planet with the virus running on a rampage . Even if the world was filled with Robots the virus itself would do its job and Zero’s purpose was to kill Megaman or Megaman X because they’re creations of Dr light which why when Zero Awakens he told X his purpose and that was to destroy him . It was made clear as day .
