On Twitter there are some who don't like seeing Carrot, Rebecca, Pudding, Shirahoshi, and pre-timeskip Vivi being sexualized or be called waifus because of their canonical age (Carrot is 15, the others are 16) and even call "pedos" anyone who finds them attractive.

On a scale between 1 to 100, how dumb is this mindset?

They're fictional cartoon characters. Who gives a shit. Not to mention Carrot is a bunny so even if she was of legal age you'd still be sexualizing a rabbit but numbers are where you draw the line?

I'm just gonna drop a truth bomb. Nobody cares about fictional sexualized teenage characters in anime or anything not live action (Hell, we'd even did there by just having them be played by obvious 30 year olds). I can remember less than 20 years ago when Highschool of The Dead and Kill La Kill came out, nobody gave a shit about the characters' ages and it's not like the creators tried to hide it, them being high schoolers was literally the concept of both shows. Social Media was alive and well back then and I never heard anyone complain about them being 17 or younger. Just that they were silly and the fan service was excessive. Nobody looked at you funny if you said Ryuko or Seako were hot but once people figured out they could get brownie points by pretending to be a hero on social media NOW all the sudden we give a shit about protecting the fictional teenagers. Give me a fucking break

Heck, even before that there's Neon Genesis Evangelion. People are still sexually attracted to Asuka and Rei, not caring that they're 14. Didn't stop the series, the Rebuild movies, and the official marketing from sexualizing them too.

Yeah Evangelion, Naruto, Bleach, Gurren Lagann (Yoko was basically the Jessica Rabbit of the 00s, everyone wanted to fuck her), Code Geass, Persona 3 and 4, hell there are so many anime with sexy teenagers now you could argue that internet wasn't a big thing back then so wasn't as easy for people to voice their complaints but this stuff was on Adult Swim, very easy to see. You mean to tell that Americans can put enough energy to send hate mail to end New Coke but they'll do nothing about supposed "problematic" elements like sexualized teenagers on TV? Yeah we didn't give a shit. Social brownie points, that's all there is to it. Simple as that, there is no other logical explanation

Although to be fair, caring more about a soda than real world issues like child exploitation sounds pretty American to me

It's a topic for another day, and it's something I could rant about for hours, but that's pretty much it right there. Character age is completely irrelevant. My personal opinion that character age doesn't at all matter so long as the character can pass for a very bangable teenager or adult. And even for lolis, something that I actively dislike, it's still fiction and it shouldn't make morons try to compare it to real "child exploitation".

I honestly blame tumblr culture. Virtue signaling, sensitive feelings, mental illness, feeling offended over big boobs, etc. All of that. It was absolutely rampant on tumblr, then when tumblr infamously banned porn, you soon saw a sharp increase on this behavior everywhere else, namely twitter. Now there's a new generation born from those ashes.

Unless someone can show peer reviewed studies that that Evangelion porn turns someone into a rapist, I'm gonna say fuck off. Considering that anime (not to mention porn of cartoons like TEEN Titans, Kim Possible and Avatar The Last Airbender) have been popular in the USA since at least the 90s and we haven't seen any spikes in teenage rape, I doubt anyone will find it
