If you ask me, the best custom fighting game out there is M.U.G.E.N. It uses the gameplay of Marvel vs Capcom as its basis, but you can get characters who use the gameplay of other fighting games too. My own Mugen build (which I downloaded then tweaked a little) is patterned after Marvel vs Capcom 1, copying its title screen, character select screen, and menu music.

The amount of freedom you have is incredible. Stages, music, characters, mini games, boss stages, gameplay settings--all this is available to you to customize. I've got 30+ stages (all with custom music), 80+ characters (from Marvel, DC, Capcom, KoF, and Star Wars, along with some miscellaneous characters), and three mini games (the dance dance revolution-styled one is my favorite).

There's even some adult-rated characters that can rape compatible fighters.

I made my own Mugen when I was younger. Over 350 chars, like 300 stages. Very fun.

I made my own too, it's mostly Kirby and some Touhou and it's recolors. Otherwise it's random.

Mine was themed around Capcom vs SNK, with some guests. Melty Blood, Guilty Gear, Arcana Heart and more. Hi-Res stages, from the represented games with the original music. Fully programed arcade. I was very ambitious.

Question, should i play Xenogears again?

Last time i played it was during my Covid lockdown NEET phase, back when i had time to play vydia all day (Now i have a job, commissions have to be paid somehow) and i don't have the time i used to have anymore.

I remember that game being a larger than life epic, especially towards the end. It was an awe inducing experience that no other game has ever replicated (Reason why i stopped liking JRPGs, they just disappoint me now after experiencing quasi-perfection). It was the first "seinen" RPG, it never censored nor sugarcoated its themes, it felt mature, it felt serious, it was something that was never seen before, and sadly, it's not going to be seen again in this era of political correctness and censoring of "problematic" content (Ignoring the fact that problematic contents are what give games that "spice" that makes them special). Fei and Elly's romance is one of the few that i actually care about, not only because it felt genuine, but also because there's the element of fate playing against them, which make you want to see them finally happy together. It's just fantastic.

Problem is that i also remember it being a bit "chore-y" with its grinding and navigation. There's also the "Where the hell am i suppossed to go!?" Element, present in every old school RPGs and its filled with "Oh, right, this part..." moments that takes away replayability. And we can't forget about the infamous disk two, but that was a problem with Square taking away its budget to give it to Final Fantasy VIII (A mistake considering that that game sucks and Xenogears is a masterpiece). It's awfully flawed, yet it's one of the best RPGs i have played.
