That's pretty extreme, isn't it?
From what I can put together through context, having not seen or read either, it seems to fit.
The show is Sauron.
It came to us all pretty looking at first, acting like it was a good guy, showering us with gifts.
But then it showed it's real colors, everybody noticed, and none of it would of been possible without the comic.
The comic is Morgoth.
Generally regarded as bad.
