Saw quite a few images that could perfectly contain this tag. I did argue in favor of it in danbooru like three years ago, but they just obfuscated its use until the purpose for it became really loose. So ig the only reason it is horrendously underused is because of how controversial it is. It's kinda tragic cuz you rarely know by certain if an artist wanted to represent that and in some case you can just say you "feel it."
Looking at the tag I'm noticing it's only used when the artist makes it painfully obvious to the point of being a turn off. Lesbian flag on a bikini? Booring.
It falls on a dilema on wether it should be tagged because there is one target audience for it that might find such artwork bia that tag (even on disregard of the artist's despiction being unclear) or if it should only be tagged in such case it's evidently representing an "orientation break."
I'm pretty sure there might be other tags that are used loosely and they're not so strictly vigilated like orientation_play, but I'm not too clear on the map right now. Like penis size tags as someone mentioned above? It's really hard to measure them in fiction and we don't even know if they're using an universal "average" or local "average" for the medium_penis tag. Samely I think characters that are shown to be in hetero/homo relationships (regardless of their actual orientation which more often than not comes to be a headcanon) and are depicted having sex continuosly in contrary to their canon supposed orientation should be considered orientation play?
Like in many instances you'll have to go beyond the picture frame and wonder why there are some artists that like to, namely, depict Symphogear characters having hetero sex when their canon relationships are strictly homosexual. The headcanon issue keeps on, since they might be bisexual and everything falls apart. However, I remember arguing that "bisexual discovery" could be part of its charm. Yet again; may be a headcanoned assumption because we're assuming there's "bisexual discovery" representation in a lot of drawings that might be getting arbitrarily tagged with it. I don't want them to assume good faith for people who decide to use the tag, but maybe consider canon relationships and do a bit of connecting the dots even outside the artwork to conclude if it would appeal to people who must be satisfied when looking for orientation_play along with other tags in the search bar.
Also I think it's good to appreciate it for other than dikes getting dicked. I would even dare to say it's the queer who pretty much invented orientation play with stuff like "homophobic man rethinks his heterosexuality" or "Bakugo x Izuku" in wattpad. Any shipper community would have tons of stuff like that. That is another branch that I didn't quite take into account at the time and now it seems most of it is lesbians getting dicked. Localizing artwork that represents that particular "hetero turns gay" situation without much knowledge of what characters or series are targeted that way would be nearly impossible for me though.
This is one post I remember using as example of orientation_play on danbooru since the characters have an homosexual relationship. If you read what I wrote then you could imagine what they told me.
Ultimately I have to acknowledge that you can find stuff like that by simply inserting [lesbian character] + hetero in the search bar. However, it doesn't work the other way around when you need to find such artwork in independence of a character or series. I'd say that would be the biggest argument to justify using it on the picture I shared and similar. It's not dead or alive for me right now, though. It sort of was at that time I argued on danbooru.
