When she was a little girl, she got a chance to satisfy both of her interests when she stayed for a week with Alice Carteret's family at a beautiful countryside home in England. Shinbou instantly takes a liking to Alice due to the British girl being blonde and blue-eyed, the kind of appearance that Shinobu finds the most attractive. While Alice's parents can speak Japanese, Alice does not understand Japanese and Shinobu only knows how to say, "Hello!" Even though neither girl can understand what the other is saying, the two of them form an odd friendship due to both of them having an interest in the other's culture and due to their mutual friendliness. When Shinobu returns to Japan, Alice resolves to one day go to Japan to see Shinobu. When Shinobu begins high school, she gets a pleasant surprise when she discovers that Alice has transferred into the school and has become fluent in Japanese. Their childhood situation has now been reversed as Alice is staying at Shinobu's home for the time being. The series focuses on the humorous situations that the Shinobu and her friends get into during high school. While all of the characters are voiced by Japanese seiyuu like the vast majority of anime, the anime notably features a sizable amount of English dialogue, which is subtitled in Japanese and the language barrier between the Japanese speaking characters and English-speaking ones when they're speaking in English is used for humor. The series also attempts to avoid Engrish in the pronunciation of English words and Alice's seiyuu Tanaka Manami had previously studied English in England.
