The Donkey Kong in the original arcade game and Donkey Kong 94 is strongly implied to be DKC's Cranky Kong. He is the hero of the Donkey Kong Country series and frequently appears in Mario spinoff games and Super Smash Bros.. The British company Rare was responsible for this new version of Donkey Kong and and the success of Donkey Kong Country has allowed this version to displace the original in popular consciousness, but as mentioned before, Cranky Kong is implied to be the original Donkey Kong that Mario battled. The DKC Donkey Kong has also replaced Cranky as the antagonist in the Mario vs Donkey Kong spinoff series. He is close friends with Diddy Kong and is in a relationship with Candy Kong.
