He specializes in writing dark urban fantasy works which often feature supernatural and superhuman characters utilizing magical powers with centuries of history doing battle with each other in contemporary Japan. In between the super-powered battles, there are often extensive philosophical discussions about magic, the characters' extraordinary circumstances, and human nature. He is most famous for creating the Nasuverse, a massive universe where all of his stories take place in. Two of its most famous installments, Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night, turned Nasu into one of the successful visual novel writers of his generation. Each installment is stand-alone but his works often share concepts, magic rules, and character types. As a writer, Nasu cites Kikuchi Hideyuki, Ayatsuji Yukito, Shimada Soji, Kyogoku Natsuhiko, Takemoto Kenji, Ishikawa Ken, and Nightow Yasuhiro, as his biggest influences. He is childhood friends with his fellow Type-Moon founder, Takeuchi Takashi. The two of them met during junior high and has consistently worked together since with Takeuchi illustrating his Nasu's stories.
