Now Viewing: deadpool_&_wolverineTag type: Copyright The third installment of the live action Deadpool_(movie) series and the first to be part of the Marvel_Cinematic_Universe. In spite of being part of the MCU which generally aims for a PG-13 rating, this film keeps all of the R rated violence and profanity from previous Deadpool installments. It is a superhero buddy action comedy that was released on July 22, 2024. As the title indicates, it stars Deadpool and Wolverine with Ryan_Reynolds and Hugh_Jackman reprising their roles. The two of them had previously appeared on screen together in X-Men Origins: Wolverine although Reynolds was only playing the Wade Wilson persona in said film. It was directed by Shawn Levy who had previous directed both lead actors in multiple films and directing against type by doing a more adult-oriented comedic film as opposed to the more family friendly works he previously did. Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese returned to write the script with Reynolds, Levy, and Zeb Wells also contributing to it. It was scored by Rob Simonsen. It has been a few years since Deadpool 2, and on a meta note, since the rights to the Marvel superhero characters were transferred from Twentieth Century Fox over to Disney. Deadpool has quit being a mercenary and now works as a car salesman, living a peaceful life with his close friends. Unfortunately, his relationship with long time girlfriend Vanessa has become strained and he doesn't feel fully satisfied with his life. On his birthday, agents from the Time Variance Authority who oversee all the disparate timelines of the universe capture Deadpool. He is brought to Paradox who offers to let Deadpool join the Sacred Timeline, or the MCU timeline, and become the hero he always wanted to be. However, this will come at the cost of sacrificing his present timeline. In spite of his misgivings concerning his current life, Deadpool is unable to accept the offer, but Paradox still intends to go through with getting rid of Deadpool's timeline because its anchor being, a timeline's most important character, Wolverine/ James Howlett Logan has passed away. Deadpool travels the multiverse to find a Wolverine variant that he can work with, settling on the Wolverine who's considered to be the worst one in the multiverse. Now, Deadpool must work together with this reluctant Wolverine variant to save his timeline before it's wiped out. A third Deadpool film was in the works as soon as the first Deadpool film was a box office smash, but Reynolds and the writers struggled to come up with a suitable story for it. It was not until Hugh Jackman expressed interest in making a movie with Reynolds, complete with reprising his most iconic screen role, that the writers finally figured out the film's story. The film is heavily meta, even by Deadpool standards, with numerous references to both fellow MCU works but also the pre-MCU era of Marvel superhero films, to the point that the film functions as an affectionate tribute to them. The film has many surprise character appearances so be wary of spoilers or even looking at a cast list for the film. The film also doubles a sequel to Logan_(movie) so be wary of spoilers for that film. The film was a box office smash upon release, earning over 400 million dollars with a few days and crossing the 1 billion dollar mark within two weeks. This film has the honor of being the second R-rated movie to cross the 1 billion dollar mark behind fellow comic book adaptation Joker 2019.
