If you think about it, this is basically the Orange Islands, except less travelling and relies more on comedic effect rather than story. So, it's likely there will be a fine line somehow inserted into the show, so it's similar to how Ash won the Orange Island league, except with more Deus Ex Machina moments.

Seriously, just let Ash win a league already. It makes the whole thing into a "shaggy dog story" for him to put all that work into making the leagues only to lose every time. The writers seem to think that they'll have to end the show if they ever let Ash win, but they could easily just have him meet a trainer with a really neato foreign Pokemon on his way home to have Ash go "oh shit nigga I gotta get me onea those" and head off to the new region.
