She is part of the Ayasato clan whose female members are spirit mediums and have the ability to summon spirits. Mayoi can temporarily be possessed by a spirit, an ability that is used to Ryuuichi's advantage in some cases. Mayoi is a cheerful and clumsy teen girl who has a close relationship with Ryuuichi. Her antics sometimes exasperate him, but he cares deeply about her. She has the unfortunate luck of being kidnapped often, but Ryuuichi always goes out of his way to save her. She is a main character in Gyakuten Saiban 1-3, but is absent in Gyakuten Saiban 4 although she is alluded to. In the upcoming Gyakuten Saiban 5, Ryuuichi has a new female sidekick. Whether Mayoi will return remains to be seen. She also appears in Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney and also assists Ryuuichi in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. She is voiced by Kiritani Mirei (Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney) who also plays her in the live action film.
