What is [gelbooru.com]'s affiliation with [danbooru.donmai.us]? Are they the same site? Partner site? Rival site? Friend site? etc...
I don't really like the site on danbooru because they won't even let me view certain pictures(such as loli) but unfortunately alot of users prefer it there. I for one am actually going to stick to here but the lack of users and tags on pictures isn't good as well. If it were possible i would actually want to spam danbooru's forum board users to move to this site and continue their work here instead but i doubt my topic will stay open for so long.
The fact that on danbooru's site you must have a privileged account in order to access such images is a big joke. A 20 dollar donation is an instant upgrade to the account but otherwise if don't want to pay you have to suck up to their standards immensely or come up with ideas for the site in order to get a privileged account.

To be fair, their site was the first 'booru ever. I think he deserves the money to help pay the server costs.

Our affiliation is I guess somewhat existent. But while I have permission to grab images from his site, we don't really have any set partnerships. I guess you could say we are friend sites, but we never really talked beyond his server having odd errors with hardware/kernel related stuff.

Don't spam their board, contribute there too if you can, or, just donate $20. Keep in mind that our success is dependent on theirs.

I actually was going to ask a very similar question just now but decided to look through the first few pages first. The whole danbooru, gelbooru, xbooru, and half a dozen other boorus (that I don't know of but that I'm sure exist >_>...) is quite confusing to me. It seems that the sites are more or less identical rip-offs of one another as their differentiating purposes aren't really stated in any visible place.

With that said, it seems to me that Gelbooru is the more active site with a wider variety of images in the fan-art (mostly game related) that I am interested in.

That and because I could have commented as anonymous at first without an account kinda made me more attached to this place. =3

The same can be said about the "chans". At first, it was 2chan in Japan. Then, came 4chan. Afther that a shitload of chans appeared.

I've gone through a lot of booru and gel is my favorite. Danbo actually went down for a while didn't it? I think that's when I switched to sagubooru and stuff.

Not to sound like a kiss ass, but Gelbooru is definitely better-- more pictures, no crashes, no donations for "privileged" accounts. That, and all the pictures I've uploaded here are still up...

What made you create Gelbooru? Was there something specific you wanted to do differently?

They died, the replacements were dropping like flies. We made our own PHP alternative. Here we are now, Danbooru came back some time later.
